How to resolve UNSUPPORTED: "ERROR: BLANK FEATURE" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS) - MapInfo License Server Utility

If a client machine cannot connect to a License Server Utility (LSU) to activate MapInfo and the LSU log reports the following:

13:41:09 (unisw20) UNSUPPORTED: "ERROR: BLANK FEATURE" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS ) tmc23355@U278906 (Invalid parameter. (-42,540))

This typically points towards incorrect or missing Serial Number / Access Code information in the registry of the Client machine that is running MapInfo.

To resolve / troubleshoot this, first close all instances of MapInfo on the client machine, then follow the below:
  1. Open the Windows Registry by selecting Start and typing regedit.exe. Once the search has returned the results, right-click on the .exe and select run as administrator.
  2. Navigate to the following location:
    • MapInfo 64-bit Applications HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional
    • MapInfo 32-bit Applications HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional
  3. Within the Professional folder, expand the folder that represents the MapInfo installation you are trying to activate. For example, V15 = 1500, v15.2 = 1520 etc.
  4. Make note of the values contained within the ProductID and AccessCode keys.
  5. Now navigate to the following location:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional
  6. Within the Professional folder, expand the folder that represents the MapInfo installation you are trying to activate. For example, V15 = 1500, v15.2 = 1520 etc.
  7. Make sure the values for ProductID and AccessCode are the same as aforementioned, if not, create them by selecting the sub-folder, right-clicking and selecting New > String Value. Rename the key then double-click on it to enter the corresponding value.
  8. Open MapInfo Professional.
