How to specify a date format for a Portrait/Spectrum Miner input CSV File

UPDATED: July 27, 2017

Portrait/Spectrum Miner uses three standard date formats - American, European and YMD.  If date fields in a text file are not in any of these formats then Portrait/Spectrum Miner generally treats them as being 'string' field types, for example if the data being processed has a date values like 2012-12-04 00:00:00.000.

When a date field is not in one of these three 'standard' date formats, you can manually specify a dateformat for Portrait Miner to use.  This can be done in the .fdd file for the data file, or in the New Focus Wizard on Step 3.

Setting dateformat in Step 3

In this particular case, for a date looking like:

2012-12-04 00:00:00.000

The appropriate date format description is:

%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S%*

Note the "%*" is used at the end of the dateformat string to handle any trailing characters, in this case the decimal seconds ".000" which are discarded for the Portrait Miner date value.
