"Inspection Due" or "Inspection Required" on the mailstation and mailstation2

When you see an "Inspection Due" or "Inspection Required" message on the mailstation or mailstation2, you must clear the message so that you can run mail.
Products affected: mailstation™ (K700, K705), mailstation2™ (K7M0)

Issue

Your meter displays the message "Inspection Due" or "Inspection Required".

Cause

USPS® regulations require that your meter be inspected periodically. This inspection occurs automatically when you connect your meter to the Pitney Bowes Data Center to refill postage or perform a balance inquiry. If no connection is made within a 90 day period, your meter displays the message Inspection Due and then Inspection Required.

Resolution

When you see the "Inspection Due" or "Inspection Required" message, you must clear the message so that you can run mail.

Before you begin

Make sure that your meter is connected to access the Pitney Bowes Data Center using:

  • a SmartLink device
  • PC Meter Connect
  • a Communication Device
  • a dial-up phone connection

Solution 1: Connect to perform a balance inquiry

  1. Press Enter/Yes when your meter connects to the Pitney Bowes Data Center.
  2. Press Enter/Yes when your meter shows your balances.
  3. Press No when your meter prompts Would you like to refill postage?.
  4. Your meter connects to the Data Center and completes the inspection before returning to your Home screen.

If the message disappears, then the inspection completed successfully. If your message does not clear, try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Connect to perform a balance inquiry

  1. Press Funds.
  2. Press Review (down arrow) twice.
  3. Press Enter/Yes when your screen displays Check amt available to download?.
  4. Press Enter/Yes when your balances display.
  5. Press No when your meter displays Would you like to refill postage?.
  6. Your meter connects to the Data Center and completes the inspection before returning to your Home screen.

If the message disappears, then the inspection completed successfully.

Tip: If you see a No Dial Tone message, then you are not connected. See Connection errors and messages on the mailstation series.
