Setting up a wired connection with a USB Ethernet network adapter on the DM300C, DM400C and DM450C

You can set up a wired connection using a USB Ethernet network adapter by physically connecting the USB adapter and then defining how to get the IP address (static or dynamic).
Products affected: DM300C™, DM400C™, DM450C™

Set up a wired connection using a USB Ethernet network adapter by physically connecting the USB adapter and then defining how to get the IP address (static or dynamic).

Physical installation

  1. Turn the meter off.
  2. Remove any phone cords connected to the meter.
  3. Plug the meter's Ethernet cable into the network plug on the wall.
  4. Attach the USB Ethernet adapter to the other end of the Ethernet cable.
  5. Plug the USB Ethernet adapter into one of the USB ports on the back of the meter.
  6. Turn the meter on.
  7. When the Mail Run screen appears, the LEDs on the network adapter should light up or flicker within 15 seconds. This indicates that there is a network connection.
  8. Press Menu.
  9. Press Page Down twice.
  10. Select Data Center Options.
  11. Press Page Down.
  12. If the Connection Method is not set to Auto, select the button next to Connection Method to change it to Auto.

Network setup

The meter can be set to automatically get an IP address from your network's DHCP server (this is the most common setup), or to have a static IP address (required on some networks). To determine the correct settings for your network, contact your IT department or service provider. For networking details, see the DM Series LAN Connection Setup Guide.

Automatically get an IP address (DHCP)

If you want the meter to automatically get an IP address (DHCP):

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Data Center Options.
  4. Select Network Settings.
  5. Select Get IP.
  6. Select Automatically.

Important: The meter is set to "automatically" by default.

Static IP address

If you need to set the meter to a static IP address, contact your IT department to obtain the address, then:

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Data Center Options.
  4. Select Network Settings.
  5. Select Get IP.
  6. Select Specify Address Manually.
    1. Select IP Addr and enter the IP address.
    2. Select Subnet and enter the subnet mask.
    3. Select Gateway and enter and the gateway.

DNS server

The meter is already set up with a default DNS server, which usually does not need to be changed. If your network requires the meter to use a custom DNS server, contact your IT department to obtain the server information, then:

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Data Center Options.
  4. Select Distributor Settings.
  5. Press Page Down.
