How to sort an input file into Walk Sequence or Line-of-Travel Carrier Route order in MailStream Plus

Product Affected:  MailStream Plus™
MailStream Plus™ (MSP) has an option to sort your incoming Name-Address file into either Walk Sequence (W-S)  or Line-of-Travel (LOT) sequence, providing the W-S or LOT sequencing data is already present in the input records.

This is done using the ZIP IN parameter, positions 36-38, 40-42, and an 'X' in position 46.

If you only tell MSP a location in ZIP IN positions 36-38, and leave 40-42 blank, that indicates you have 5-byte walk-sequence number in the records, and MSP will put the records into Walk-Sequence order based on the ZIP Code, Carrier Route, and W-S number.

If you tell MSP a 36-38 location *and* a 40-42 location, that indicates that you are pointing to a 4-byte LOT number, and the A/D directional.  MSP will sort the records based on the rules for line of travel, which includes ascending and descending rules based on whether position 40-42 is pointing to an A or a D in a record.

The ZIP IN and other parameters are discussed in the MSP Reference Guide.
