How to find the installation guidelines for Doc1 Designer V5 and V6

Product Feature: Installation / Upgrade

There is no separate installation documentation for Designer, the basic processes are included in the Release Notes supplied with each version of product.

There are 3 separate installation options:

Standalone
Client\Server
Distributed

In a Standalone installation, the Designer Client, Application Server and SQL server are all on the same physical machine
In a Client\Server installation, the Designer Client(s) are installed on either a single or multiple machines, and the Application Server and SQL are installed on another (same) machine
In a Distributed installation, the Designer Client(s) are installed on either a single or multiple machines, the Application Server is on a different machine, and SQL is on another machine

If installing in Standalone mode, and you do not have a compatible version of SQL already installed, this will be detected during installation, and the version of SQL Express packaged with the software will be installed.  We will automatically install this in Mixed Mode.

If you already have a compatible version of SQL installed, this will be detected during the install process so the packaged SQL Express version should not be installed.  Note, SQL should always be in Mixed Mode Authentication.

When in standalone mode, the path to the filestore can be a local drive letter, ie c:\my_repository\filestore

If installing in Client\Server mode, the Server should be installed first, and the filestore folder that you are going to use must be created ahead of time, and shared with everyone that is going to be working on the product.  Full share rights required.  If you do not have a compatible version of SQL already installed, this will be detected during installation, and the version of SQL Express packaged with the software will be installed.  We will automatically install this in Mixed Mode.

If you already have a compatible version of SQL installed, this will be detected during the install process so the packaged SQL Express version should not be installed.  Note, SQL should always be in Mixed Mode.

When creating the repository in a Client\Server setup, the path to the filestore MUST be a UNC path, ie \\servername\filestore.  The paths for backups can be a local drive on the Application Server machine.

After the server is installed, in the install path, you will find a folder "client diskset", this needs to be shared to all users that are going to install the clients.  They need to browse to this folder, to install the Designer client.

In a Distributed install, each component is separately installed, with the Repository Configuration Tool being the first thing installed, this goes on the SQL machine.

The Application Server is the next thing to install, and following this installation, the "client diskset" folder needs to be shared as above, and the clients installed as above.

Doc1 must be installed on a local drive, it cannot be installed on a Network drive.
