How to create Layered PDFs in MapInfo Pro

UPDATED: March 30, 2017

To create a layered PDF in MapInfo Professional follow the steps below:
  1. Create a map either in the Map Window or in a Layout Window.
  2. Choose File>Print, and in the Printer dropdown, choose: MapInfo PDF Printer Version <MAPINFO PRO VERSION USED>.
  3. Then choose your file name and location, and select save.
The PDF would then print.

There are just a few caveats involved when printing a layered PDF that, if not met, will result in a Flat PDF.
  • The First: You cannot have any translucent layers in the Map. Translucent layers can only be printed utilizing an Off Screen BitMap. Essentially, we print everything to an image, then print the image.
  • The Second: You must have your MapInfo Printer settings set to Print Directly to Device, and not set to Print Using Enhanced Metafile (EMF). In the Options menu of MI Pro, choose Preferences. Click on the Output Settings button. Then choose the Printing Tab.
