Information on if users can be exported from one version of Spectrum to another

A question that has been asked is, when migrating to a new version of Spectrum on new hardware, is there any way to copy user accounts from the old version of Spectrum to the new version?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Using the Command Line tool, it is possible to get a list of users including their roles, email address, description, and whether the user is enabled or disabled. However it does not give you passwords, nor can you export this information in any way to be loaded into another version of Spectrum. Currently there are only two ways to retain your Spectrum users in a situation like this, where your aim is to not only upgrade Spectrum, but to migrate to new hardware:

Option 1:
  1. Install the same version of Spectrum on the new hardware - note the new hardware must be running the same base Operating System as the old (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.)
  2. Stop the old Spectrum server and copy the server/app/repository directory from the old machine and place it on the new machine in the same location, overwriting the fresh install (the new server must also be stopped)
  3. Start Spectrum and ensure that your users are present and working properly
  4. Stop Spectrum and perform the upgrade process to your desired version
  5. Your users will be included in the new version
Option 2:
  1. If your old hardware will allow for it, perform the upgrade on the old Spectrum server first.
  2. Install the same new version fresh on your new hardware - note the new hardware must be running the same base Operating System as the old (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.)
  3. Stop the old Spectrum server and copy the server/app/repository directory from the old machine and place it on the new machine in the same location, overwriting the fresh install (the new server must also be stopped)
  4. Start the new Spectrum and ensure that your users are present and working as expected.
