How to Upgrade the JAVA version for Spectrum Spatial Analyst 12.0 or 12.1

Follow these steps to upgrade the JAVA version for Spectrum Spatial Analyst 12.0 or 12.1:

1. Download and install the desired JDK from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html
 
The latest version at time of writing and tested with SSA is the Java SE Development Kit 8u144. Please choose the Development Kit (shown below) and not the Runtime Environment. For a Windows server you need to choose the x64 version shown in yellow below.
 
Note also that the user needs to accept licence agreement and need to login to Oracle network for download (an account can be created)

2.  Open windows command line utility from command line (you should right click and run as administrator)

Navigate to

C:\Program Files\Pitney Bowes\SpectrumSpatialAnalyst\Tomcat7\AnalystAdmin\bin
then type tomcat7w.exe//ES//AnalystAdmin

Tomcat AdminConsole properties console will pop up .

Navigate to the Java tab and the field that shows the file path to the java virtual machine

Browse for the JVM.dll (from newly installed version) and click Apply and then Ok
Path: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_144\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll

3.  Perform same set of steps for the AnalystConnect and AnalystLocate tomcat services 

     Commands are as follows:
      AnalystConnect 
      C:\Program Files\Pitney Bowes\SpectrumSpatialAnalyst\Tomcat7\AnalystConnect\bin
      then type tomcat7w.exe//ES//AnalystConnect
      AnalystLocate

      C:\Program Files\Pitney Bowes\SpectrumSpatialAnalyst\Tomcat7\AnalystLocate\bin
      then type tomcat7w.exe//ES//AnalystLocate
 
       Restart PitneyBowes AnalystLocate , PitneyBowes AnalystAdmin and PitneyBowes AnalystConnect services from windows services panel.
