Determining why the MailStream Plus S01 loadlib is in Record format h

Product Affected:  MailStream Plus™
Product Feature: installing update
Operating System: z/OS

Issue

MailStream Plus™ 8.3.3 is installed on the z/OS platform.
When installing the S01 update the Receive jcl step creates the S01 loadlib in this format:
  • Record format . . . : H
When it should be:
  • Record format . . . : U
 Why is this happening?

Cause

The S01 update .load file is being sent up Binary using the Dos command prompt.
It has always worked before.
In testing at Pitney Bowes, using the program called PowerTerm:
  • Record format . . . : V
Was created by the Receive jcl when the Send File -TSO tab screen
On the File Conversion line [] Ascii [] CRLF [x] Local Conversion box was checked
  • Record format . . . : U
Was created by the Receive jcl when the Send File -TSO tab screen
On the File Conversion line [] Ascii [] CRLF [] Local Conversion box was unchecked.
So we knew it must be related to how the file was being sent in the ftp step.

Resolution

UPDATED: May 15, 2019
Information directly from user:
"The issue was in the DOS Command Prompt FTP process. It seems it was transferring the file with a carriage return (although no one here can explain why it decided to do that this time)."

Once they used a different program "Bluezone File Transfer" to FTP up the S01 load file and then run the Receive jcl, the format of the loadlib library was correct:

Record format . . . : U

Something in the Microsoft command prompt use of Dos FTP must have changed to cause this.
