11812 Vault error with [docdata\.drd]

Issue

I can't access a file in Vault

Cause

Server log has the following:
11:42:53 ERROR 11812: unable to open compressed file [docdata\.drd] [LastError=2]
            11:42:53 10.245.82.93:37509 GetPageNumber ERROR 16411: unable to open file [docdata\.drd] [GetLastError 2]

Resolution

UPDATED: September 18, 2017

11:42:53 ERROR 11812: unable to open compressed file [docdata\.drd] [LastError=2]
            11:42:53 10.245.82.93:37509 GetPageNumber ERROR 16411: unable to open file [docdata\.drd] [GetLastError 2]

Can be indicative of a problem with the indexes.

It is possible to legitimately be unable to access a file, for instance is the storage is offline or if the file permissions on the file are incorrect.

But usually in those cases the error message will list the entire file name in the error.

In the error above, note that it's only listing [docdata\.drd] [LastError=2] and not the entire file name.  This should never be the case, and is a symptom of a much larger problem, perhaps with the indexes.

Troubleshooting steps include:

1) getting the full render / server logs from the timeframe of the issue, to see if more context is provided
2) if the run in question is known, get the process log from when that run was originally ingested to check for errors
3) find out how the call was made.  Are they using Vault Perl client, Java client, or some API to make the call?
