Cause

JVM was the root cause of the hanging Spectrum installation.

Additionally, the "Uncompress" utility was not doing enough for the JVM to continue the Spectrum installation.

Resolution

UPDATED: April 20, 2017

Open the install.sh script in vi or some other text editor. Then search for the install_jvm() function (you can search for "install_jvm()").  The beginning of that function will look like this:

install_jvm()
{
### check for existence of uncompress (first)
cmd="uncompress"
check_cmd_exist
if [ $CMD_EXIST -eq 0 ]
then
### check for existence of gunzip next
   oldcmd=$cmd
   cmd="gunzip"
   check_cmd_exist

Change the following:

cmd="uncompress"

to

cmd="gunzip"

then save/close the script file. Attempt the installation again.
