Resolution

UPDATED: November 15, 2017
Please ensure you checked the Release notes to ensure you followed all applicable points. Particularly under "Issues with IIS", "Internet Explorer on Windows Server 2003 and 2008", as well as "Issues with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008".

There is also a section "To enable 32-bit applications on a 64-bit machine" which must be followed if you are using 64-bit Windows.

In particular, here are some things you can check:
1. Check ‘Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0’ is installed on the Web App server. It should be because it gets installed as a prerequisite when installing Content Author Web Client.

2. Issues with IIS
If Microsoft IIS is installed after Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 has already been installed then ASP (a component of .NET) must be registered with IIS. To do this, run:  C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe /i

Please try and remove this comment from the "webconfig" file and re-start IIS

3. Internet Explorer on Windows Server 2003 and 2008
Content Author requires JavaScript to be enabled in Internet Explorer (it is disabled by defaulton Windows Server 2003). To enable JavaScript, open Internet Explorer and from the Tools menu select Internet Options.
In the Security tab, click on Internet and select the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to Active scripting and select Enable or Prompt.

4. Try and re-start ASP.Net as well

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework>cd v2.0.50727

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>aspnet_regiis -r
Start installing ASP.NET (2.0.50727) and replacing ASP.NET DLL in all Scriptmaps
with current version.
