How to resolve issue where MapInfo Pro starts but stays minimized to the Windows Taskbar or corrupt ribbon behavior

Issue

When launching MapInfo Pro, the program stays minimized to the Windows task bar and never fully opens..
 

Another issue could be with inconsistent ribbon behavior map windows appears in the Layer Control and is still listed in the Windows list after a map window has been closed.

 

Cause

This issue could be occurring for multiple reasons, including incorrect shortcut settings and corrupt MapInfo Pro "State" XML files.

 

 

Resolution

UPDATED: October 9, 2017

Solution 1:
Right-click on the shortcut that launches MapInfo Pro and make sure the "Run" drop-down is NOT set to "Minimized":

Solution 2:
Right-click on the minimized MapInfo Pro icon on the Windows Taskbar,  then right-click  on the MapInfo Pro icon that appears and then left-click on Open

Solution 3:
a. Close MapInfo Pro by launching Task Manager and ending the process called "MapInfoPro.exe"
b. In Windows Explorer, Navigate to the following folder:
      C:\Users\login name\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo 
c. Rename the file "MapInfoPro.Wor" to "MapInfoPro.old" and rename "preferences.xml" to "preferences.xml.old"
 
Solution 4:
a. Close MapInfo Pro by launching Task Manager and ending the process called "MapInfoPro.exe"
b. In Windows Explorer, Navigate to the following folder:
       C:\Users\login name\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\1600 (for MapInfo Pro 16.0)
c. Delete or rename the following files:

(Note: any custom edits users have made to the Ribbbon, including adding/removing Quick Task commands, etc. will be lost.so before editing or deleting these files, backup the MapInfoPro.RibbonState.EN.xml file first - this file saves the Ribbon edits..

MapInfoPro.DockingState.xml
MapInfoPro.RibbonState.EN.xml


Launch MapInfo Pro. - Pro will recreate the 2 XML files at startup..
If user had custom Ribbon edits (adding Quick task icons, for example), then closes MapInfo Pro,
use Windows Explorer to replace the newly created MapInfoPro.RibbonState.EN.xml with the version backed up previously.
and launch MapInfo Pro,
