Portrait Dialogue: Visual Dialogue error “Control ‘pnlToolboxContainer’ has no parent window”

Product Feature:Visual Dialogue 6.0.0.267

Issue

The following error has been encountered when opening elements in Visual Dialogue (6.0.0.267).

The error pops up when opening an element, and the resulting screen does not show what is expected.

The problem is often reported as being local to one specific client PC with Visual Dialogue installed, other installations do not throw this error.

Cause

Some causes of this type of behavior could be:
  • If the customer is using Citrix.  The NetScalar Application Firewall could be blocking certain application components
  • Another possible cause could be a "default browser" set to something other than Internet Explorer
  • Most likely, there is corruption in the Registry

Resolution

UPDATED: March 29, 2017
Considering all possibilities:
  • If using Citrix, the NetScalar Application Firewall has to be set to allow all Portrait Dialogue
  • If another browser is set as the default Browser, try changing it to Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Delete the Visual Dialogue registry keys under "current user" in the registry on that users PC

The most common resolution to this issue has been deleting the Visual Dialogue registry keys under "current user" in the registry on that users PC.
