Resolve performance issues in MapInfo Discover 3D and Discover PA

Issue

Issues below when working in MapInfo Discover 3D and Discover PA:
  • crash
  • blank 
  • freeze
  • slow performance
  • black or unresponsive screen
  • greyscale images
  • dataset disappearing.

Cause

Likely due to the dedicated graphics card not being set for program application use.
 

Resolution

UPDATED: March 24, 2017
Set MapInfo Discover 3D, Discover PA, Discover and MapInfo Pro executables to be utilised for best performance at all times by your dedicated graphics card.
The steps below detail how to do so for NVIDIA and AMD:

1. Right-click on the Desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel or Configure Switchable Graphics (AMD).

2. Under 3D Settings, navigate to Manage 3D Settings - Program Settings (NVIDIA) or Switchable Graphics Application Settings (AMD).


3. Click the Add or Add Application button and navigate to each of the following program application executable if available:
  • MapInfo Discover 3D: C:\Program Files (x86)\Encom\Discover\Discover3D.exe
  • MapInfo Discover 3D (64-bit): C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Discover\Discover3D.exe
  • Discover PA:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Encom\Discover PA\PA.exe
  • MapInfo Pro (32-bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo\Professional\Mapinfow.exe
  • MapInfo Pro (64-bit): C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Professional\MapInfoPro.exe
  • MapInfo Discover (32-bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo\Professional\Discover.exe
  • MapInfo Discover (64-bit): C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Professional\Discover.exe

4. Set these programs to High Performance, Best Performance or Maximum Performance modes to always use the graphics card for improved performance.
