Confirm - Dashboard Drill-Down ordering is ignored

Issue

When drilling down from a Dashboard widget, the ordering specified in the ORDER BY clause of the underlying SQL within the Data Source used is ignored and the drill-down results appear unordered. This behaviour is not experienced when viewing the results direct from the Data Source itself.

Cause

With a widget's Category & Series expressions, we sort the data by these values so that the widget orders the data sensibly. Otherwise put, Category & Series expressions take precedence over the ORDER BY clause of the underlying SQL.

Once the Sort expression is set then setting it back to blank does not restore the Order By.

Resolution

UPDATED: March 30, 2017

When a widget doesn't have Category & Series expressions then it is left without a sort expression and so the data comes out as per the Order By. Depending on the setup of the particular Dashboard in question, this may not always be possible, however: in one such example a Category or Series expression was mandatory.

Please be aware that a new widget may be required; once an existing widget's Sort expression is set then setting it back to blank does not restore the Order By.

Other possible workarounds include

- Double-clicking column headings on the results grid to order by that column or
- Saving results out to, for example, an Excel file and reordering data within Excel.
