Resolve error "Received file appears not to be an Interactive Data Transmission Facility file" when running the RECEIVE jcl on z/OS to install a update/patch in MailStream Plus

Operating System: z/OS

Issue

Running the RECEIVE jcl to install the S01 update, User received this error:

"Received file appears not to be an Interactive Data Transmission Facility file"

Cause

The user included the file MVSPATCH.JCL as the jcllib in the RECEIVE jcl.

The S01 update only included the .load and .obj files.

The true error was a problem with the format, but the MVSPATCH.jcl was not to be included in the RECEIVE jcl. It was not in a format to be run in the RECEIVE jcl.

Resolution

UPDATED: August 7, 2017

The file -
MVSPATCH.JCL

is included in the .zip file with the .load and .obj files as an ascii file that you can read using Notepad on your pc to follow instructions on how to install the patch.

You truly only have to install the .load or the .obj

So, the MVSPATCH.JCL is not required. It is not a new or replacement jcllib.
