Resolve why some columns/fields are not visible in the Thematic Map Creation Dialogue box in MapInfo Pro

Issue

On Step 2 of 3 in the Create Thematic Map process, not all the fields/columns from the TAB file are visible in the dropdown list for Field.

Cause

Fields will only show in the dropdown list if their type is numeric.

Resolution

UPDATED: April 21, 2017


In 32-bit MapInfo Pro, either modify the Field/Column datatype using Table->Maintenance->Table Structure or change the Field/Column datatype in the original data source.

In 64-bit MapInfo Pro, either modify the Field/Column datatype using TABLE->Table ( "Maintenance" sub group) ->Modify Structure or change the Field/Column datatype in the original data source.

If the table is read only, field\column datatype cannot be modified. Either Save a copy to modify or recreate the tab file from the original data source, enabling read/write.
