How to resolve error "Nearest Link is being avoided - route cannot start here" when attempting to perform a route analysis in RouteFinder

Issue

When users attempt to perform a route analysis at a particular location the following error message is encounted:

"Nearest Link is being avoided - route cannot start here"

Cause

This can be caused by the street network in a particular area being flagged as 'Pedestrian only' and when the 'Vehicle General'  Route Option is used, the routes cannot follow the 'Pedestrian only' segments.

Resolution

UPDATED: November 23, 2017

Users should firstly ensure that the underlying Network data in use is up to date along with the version of RouteFinder.

The quickest way to fix this is to update the settings for these particular road segments under the ‘Set Avoids’ option. To do this:
  1. Firstly select the road segment in the Map window from the area where there are issues generating the service area and then go to ROUTEFINDER > Restrictions > Set Avoids

  1. Uncheck the ‘Pedestrian only’ option (if it is checked) then click OK

  1. Repeat the above process for any other road segments around the area which may have ‘Pedestrian only’ checked by default.
  2. Try to perform a route analysis after this to check if the error is resolved.
If users can confirm that the road segments in question should not be flagged as 'pedestrian only' then this should be raised as a possible data enhancement to our Data Development team in the form of a technical support case.
