How to create a unique number for each job in a publication run in DOC1 Designer and EngageOne Designer

Product Feature: General
How to create a unique sequence number up to 6 digits in a publication where one job would start where the previous job's sequence number left off. The numbers must be unique for 45 days.

1) Recommended using the system variable date and time.

The time is as granular as hh:mm:ss:tt. A sequential job level variable or job page count could be appended to guarantee uniqueness.

The problem with this is that it would exceed the 6 digit maximum requirement.

Instead of a 8 digit date of yyyymmdd, a person could put all 365 dates in a look-up table and translate it to a day of year which would have a 365 maximum. This would reduce a 8 digit year to 3 digits to save space.

2) An alternative is to use sequential job level variable that is incremented for each publication.

A journal entry at the end of the job would write out the last value.

A script outside Doc1 could be used to add this journal entry to a Look-up Table.

At the beginning of each job, the Look-up Table entry would be read and used as a new starting point for the sequential job level variable that is incremented for each publication.
