DOC1 6.0M5 Installation - error when installing SQL 2012 Express x64

Issue

DOC1 6.0M5 Installation - error when installing SQL 2012 Express x64

When installing Doc1 6.0M4 or later, the installation fails with the message: "The installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express x64 appears to have failed. Do you want to continue the installation?"
User-added image

This may occur although there is already an SQL Server instance present.

Cause

Several possible causes for this are:
  • An incompletely removed prior installation of SQL Server.
  • Various domain policies can interfere with the automatic installation.
  • The server already has an SQL Server present, but not detectable by the installation wizard.
  • The "bit-ness" of the Operating System and the detected SQL server are not as expected, or not matching (this is unconfirmed)

Resolution

UPDATED: September 1, 2017

Customers have solved SQL install problem by:
1. Ensured all SQL components were removed.
2. Manually installed SQL Server 2012 Express which he had downloaded from Microsoft.
3. Installed Doc1 Designer and connected to the manually installed version.
