Products Affected: MapInfo Pro™
Product Feature: Thematic and Legends

User has a table of points with mixed symbol types and wants to thematically shade each object based on a field as an individual thematic map, without changing the underlying symbol type.

If the user creates a typical Individual Thematic using the Point IndVal Default Template, the symbols in the table are replaced with colored dots:

When user clicks OK, we see the default symbol shape (dot) shaded per the desired field and not the original symbols, as desired:

If the user wishes to only change the color thematically but maintain the various symbols in the original table, then do the following:
At step 3 of 3, click on Styles and check the radio button for "Color"  and
make sure "Use Color Style" and "Replace Color Style" are both checked:

Click OK and the original symbols are now shaded thematically:

If the user wants to the thematically shaded objects to be a different default symbol,
the user could change the symbol type of the objects and then repeat the process outline above or go to Pro > Options > Styles and change the default symbol as desired and close and re-start MapInfo Pro:

Now repeat the process but in the Explorer section within MapInfo Pro, uncheck the visibility box for the layer being shaded, which is underneath the thematic layer, and the new chosen default symbol will be displayed and thematically shaded:

Note: Make sure that StyleOverride is turned off for the layer being shaded, as that setting will take precedence.
