How to change the port number for the MapInfo Pro License Server

product affected: MapInfo Pro™
To change the port number the License Server runs, edit the MILICSERVER.lic file, please run these steps below:
  1. Ensure users are running MapInfo Pro and the License Server Utility is closed.
  2. Stop the MapInfo License Server and FLEXnet License Service services.
  3. Navigate to the License Server installation directory (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo\License Server) and edit the MILICSERVER.lic file.
  4. On line 1 the following will be seen:  "SERVER this_host ANY 27000" if your License Server was installed on the default port of 27000.
  5. Change the port number and save the MILICSERVER.lic file.
  6. Start the MapInfo License Server and FLEXnet License Service services.
  7. Open the License Server Utility, it should refresh and should be running on the new port number specified.
These steps will change the port number that the License Server is running on, but clients have already been activated, then they will still be pointing at the original port number.
Once they start MapInfo Pro after the changes have been made they will be issued with an error saying that they cannot connect. When this occurs they will be given the option to change the License Server name or port number, they should only change the port number to the new number then click Connect.

Should this fail it is also possible to edit this information in the registry, to do this please follow these steps:
  1. Close MapInfo Pro.
  2. Go to Start > Run > type: regedit
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\<VERSION_NUMBER> (on 64-bit machines or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\<VERSION_NUMBER> on 32-bit machines)
  4. Change the LicenseServerPort field to the number port number.
  5. Click OK then reopen MapInfo Pro.
