Setting up a wired LAN connection on the DM300-DM475

Watch this video, or follow the instructions below, to learn how to connect to the Pitney Bowes Data Center using the USB LAN Kit with a Local Area Network (LAN) that has internet access.

Note: Connecting via LAN eliminates the need for an analogue phone line connection and provides a faster transmission speed. Review the DM Series LAN Connection Setup Guide for networking details.



To install the USB LAN Kit adapter:
  1. Turn the meter off.
  2. Plug the meter's Ethernet cable into the network plug on the wall.
  3. Attach the Network Adapter to the Ethernet cable.
  4. Plug the Network Adapter into one of the USB ports on the back of the meter.
  5. Verify that there is no phone cord connected to the meter.
  6. Turn the meter on. It will reboot automatically.
  7. When the Mail Run screen returns, the LEDs on the Network Adapter should light up or flicker within 15 seconds. This indicates that there is a connection to the network.
  8. Press the Options key.
  9. Press Page Down twice.
  10. Select "Data Center Options".
  11. Press Page Down and ensure that the Connection Mode is set to "Auto". If the meter displays "Connection Mode: Phone", press the corresponding button on the left to change to "Auto".
 
  • To set the meter to automatically get an IP address (DHCP):
    1. Press Options.
    2. Press Page Down twice.
    3. Select "Network Settings".
    4. Select "Get IP".
    5. Select "Automatcally".
  • To set the meter to a Static IP address:
    1. Press Options.
    2. Press Page Down twice.
    3. Select "Network Settings".
    4. Select "Get IP".
    5. Select "Specify Address Manually".
      1. Select "IP Addr" and enter the IP address.
      2. Select "Subnet" and enter the subnet mask.
      3. Select "Gateway" and enter and the gateway.
  • To set the DNS server:
    1. Press Options.
    2. Press Page Down twice.
    3. Select "Data Center Options".
    4. Select "Distributor Settings".
    5. Press Page Down.
    6. Select "Primary DNS" or "Secondary DNS".
    7. Select "Continue".
    8. Select "Edit Options".
    9. Enter your DNS server.
    10. Select "OK".
    11. Select "Accept".
    12. Press Home to return to the home screen.
  • To set proxy settings:
    1. Select "Data Center Options".
    2. Select "Network Setup".
    3. Select "Proxy" .
    4. Select "Enabled".
    5. Select "HTTP Settings" and enter the HTTP proxy information.
