How to shade regions based on the sum of Data for points within each region or based on a count of points within the region objects in MapInfo Professional

Here is a region table of states and a point table with pop data:

To shade each state based on the sum of each points “pop” data:

Map<add Theme and choose a ranged thematic for regions:

Click Next and choose the USA table to shade and pick ”join” and then next:

(ignore zeros and blanks to avoid shading Region objects (i.e. States) where we have no points)

(To shade based on the COUNT of points within  each region, simply click on the Calculate drop-down and choose "Count" and follow the rest of this dialog)

Click OK and you are brought back to step 2 of 3 – click next:

The legend preview displays:

Click OK and the region table is shaded with a sum of designated variable (pop_1990) for each point per state
