How to create Layered PDFs in MapInfo Pro

Products affected: MapInfo Pro™
To create a layered PDF in MapInfo Professional follow the steps below:
  1. Create a map either in the Map Window or in a Layout Window.
  2. Choose File>Print, and in the Printer dropdown, choose: MapInfo PDF Printer Version <MAPINFO PRO VERSION USED>.
  3. Then choose the "PDF" button and check the item "Layered PDF" and choose OK.
  4. Then click OK and choose a file name and location, and OK again.
The PDF would then print with layers that can be set to visible or not visible when viewed in Adobe.

There are just a few caveats involved when printing a layered PDF that, if not met, will result in a Flat PDF.
  • No translucent layers can be in the Map. Translucent layers can only be printed utilizing an Off Screen BitMap.
  • Choose the MapInfo Printer settings to "Print Directly to Device", and do not set to "Print Using Enhanced Metafile (EMF)". In the Options menu of MI Pro, choose Pro>Options>Output Settings>Printing.
