How to get a refund for misprinted or printed and unused postage

Important: Refunds are issued solely at the discretion of the USPS. Pitney Bowes has no authorization to give refunds for misprinted, damaged, or printed and unused postage.

You may be eligible for a refund from the USPS based on current USPS postal regulations.

To request a refund from the USPS, obtain a printed copy of USPS Form 3533 - Application for Refund of Fees, Products and Withdrawal of Customer Accounts from your local Post Office. This form is not available online.

Note: The indicia must be complete, legible, and must be submitted within 60 days from the date shown on the indicia.

The USPS will assess a fee for processing your refund:
  • The typical fee is 10% of the face value of the postage if it is $500 or less.
  • If the face value of the postage is more than $500, a charge of $50/hour is assessed for the actual time it takes to process the refund, with a minimum charge of $50.
For more information, contact your local Post Office.
