The goal is to find the 5 nearest stores to each Warehouse, using the Distance Calculator in MapInfo Pro.

1. In MapInfo Pro, launch the tool (Home>Tools):

The origin table is warehouses and the destination table is stores and the tool will use the Warehouse field from the Warehouse table and the City field from the stores table to identify each object returned.

             2. Check “find the closest point” and set the number of distances to 5:

3. Click on “Calculate” to create the distance table, sorted by distance, and then click on “Save Results” to save the new mappable table, with distance information and line objects:

This mapper displays the 3 Warehouse symbols (Globe symbol) and the 5 lines to the 5 nearest Stores, for each Warehouse:

The tool can be used to find the farthest point or points as well.

  1. To find the distance to EVERY object in the Destination Table, set the "number of distances to find"
to the total number of objects in the Destination table....
  2. In the example above, there are 153 "Stores", so to create a distance table showing the distance to EVERY store, set the "number of distances to find" to 153.
