Error "File OPatchInstall: could not be opened" appears while translating files using the Universal Translator in MapInfo Pro

Issue

When trying to translate a file in MapInfo Pro using Universal Translator, the error message appears:
File OPatchInstall: could not be opened
Program Terminating
Translation FAILED




 

Cause

OPatchInstall appears to be a Windows update utility that installs security updates for a number of Microsoft applications.
Safe Software (FME Support) is unsure about the cause of this error.


 

Resolution

Best to involve an IT Administrator to try the below suggestions to resolve the issue:
  1. Make sure Windows updates are up to date
  2. Complete uninstall of all versions of MapInfo Pro
  3. Delete files\folders from below locations:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo (for 32-bit MapInfo Pro Versions) and\or C:\Program Files\MapInfo (for 32-bit MapInfo P64ro Versions)
    • %temp%/MIPro directory
    • %appdata%/Roaming/MapInfo
    • %appdata%/Local/MapInfo
    • Registry entries
  4. Restart the machine
  5. Reinstall MapInfo Pro versions (first install 32-bit and then 64-bit version, if installing both)
