Issue

MapInfo Pro throws an error at launch:
"The default template was not defined in the Customization INI file. Unable to continue"

Cause

This indicates the User's MapInfo Pro Profile was corrupt:

Profiles are found at:

C:\Users\login name\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\
and
C:\Users\login name\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo\

 

Resolution

UPDATED: September 17, 2019
Uninstall MapInfo Pro and delete the install folder.
(C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo\Professional for 32-bit versions and
C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Professional for 64-bit versions)


Delete all Pro registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\version
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\version

Delete the MapInfo Profiles found at:
C:\Users\user login\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\version
and
C:\Users\user login\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\version
where version equals 1500 for versions 15.0/15/2, 1600 for versions 16.0, etc.
Then re-install MapInfo Pro, using Admin rights
