Resolve licence invalid, corrupt or out of date error when starting MapInfo Discover

  • ERROR: The licence file is invalid or corrupt
  • The licensing system is corrupt or out of date


The MapInfo Discover license file has been corrupted.



UPDATED: October 28, 2019
1. Navigate to
  • C:\ProgramData\Encom (Windows 7 and above)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Encom (Windows XP)
Note that these are hidden folders. Either manually type the location in the address bar or select 
  • Tools > Folder Options (Windows XP)
  • Organize> Folder and Search Options (Windows 7)
Select the View tab, then select Show hidden files and folders and click OK.

2. Delete any ETDISK.SEC or ETROAM.SEC files present in the directory.
On Windows 7, also check for any Compatibility files, by clicking the button if visible, and delete these files:
compatibility files option in file browser.

3. Open MapInfo Discover and complete the license activation procedure. See article "How to activate or upgrade my Encom license".
