Resolve "Encom Discover application file has stopped working" at startup

Products affected: MapInfo Pro, MapInfo Discover


When launching MapInfo Pro, Encom Discover application file has stopped working error displays.
Typically the error goes away after a few seconds and MapInfo Discover appears to function normally.



This is likely due to corruption of the CommandSearch functionality or the Microsoft .NET Framework prerequisite.


UPDATED: October 28, 2019
1. Launch MapInfo Pro.
2. Navigate to Discover > Discover Configuration.
3. Uncheck CommandSearch and click OK.

4. Close MapInfo Pro.
5. Reopen MapInfo Pro.If the error resolves, the issue is with the Microsoft .NET Framework prerequisite. Repair the Microsoft .NET Framework prerequisite on the computer.
6. Navigate to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Encom.
7. Delete the folders which begin with CommandSearch, for example:
  • CommandSearch
  • CommandSearch.exe_StrongName_kt3d4dqb3nked1n0xqn2d2yc2lo4bksx
8. Navigate to Discover > Discover Configuration.
9. Select CommandSearch and click OK.
10. Close MapInfo Pro.
11. Reopen MapInfo Pro. The error should now resolve.
