Resolve error "An error occurred while importing the map file, possibly due to missing labels for the geoset name or layer names. Ensure that the content of the .gst and related import is correct." when opening a .gst file in MapInfo Pro

Products affected: MapInfo Pro™

Issue

When opening a .gst file in MapInfo Pro, an error is displayed: "An error occurred while importing the map file, possibly due to missing labels for the geoset name or layer names. Ensure that the content of the .gst and related import is correct."

Cause

.gst files are similar to MapInfo Pro workspace files and reference the TAB files using absolute paths.
If a table being opened by the .gst file is renamed, moved or deleted, then that error would display.

Resolution

UPDATED: December 6, 2019
Open the *.gst file in a text editor like NotePad and check that the TAB file paths are valid and that the table referenced is still present at the save PATH location. Edit the PATH to reference the new location of the table

TAB files present in the same directory as the .gst file, will have no PATH information present.
