Resolve error "Failed to create the repository list database. See log file for more details." in DOC1 Repository List

Issue

After restoring a repository the following message appears on the Repository List tab:

"Failed to create the repository list database. See log file for more details."

When looking at the ServerSetup log, the following error message appears:

"ExecuteNonQuery failed for Database 'master'."

Cause

This error is caused by incorrect or insufficient permissions on the database.

Resolution

UPDATED: November 6, 2017

To add, upgrade, or remove a repository you need the following roles or permissions:

  • The sysadmin or dbcreator database server role. If you do not have either of these roles, you need CreateAnyDatabase and AlterAnyDatabase server permissions.
  • The db_owner or db_datawriter database user role. If you do not have either of these roles, you need Insert, Delete, and Update user permission.
After getting the proper permissions, you will need to uninstall and install both SQL Server and Designer again.
