Resolve MapInfo Pro error: "License Broken.." when Transferring license

Products affected: MapInfo Pro™



MapInfo Pro generates an error message when transferring a license back to Pitney Bowses.

"This license is broken. Support operations are not supported on broken licenses. Please contact Technical support for more information." 

MIP_License Broken error


This error is caused when the serial number and access code value stored in the registry has been altered after activating.

The correct access code is stored in the FlexNet 'Trusted Storage', but when the user tries to return the license it does not pick up the correct access code and generated an error.

The Issue can be resolved by entering the correct serial number and access code in registry:

1. Close MapInfo professional. 
2. Go to Run> type regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\<VERSION_NUMBER> (For 32 -bit Machine)  
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\<VERSION_NUMBER> (For 64 -bit Machine)  
4. Enter the correct Serial number in Product Id and Access code
5. Re-open MapInfo Professional and transfer the license.
